Mademoiselle Rose Cheri returns to the St. James's with all

that charm- ing naiveté and unaffected grace which delighted the audience last year. She is not what we English should call a strong actress-she never takes by storm; but the manner in which she can convey the gradations of feel- ing by the mere inflection of countenance and variation of tone is inimi- table. A piece by Scribe, Une Protegee sans le Savoir, is nothing in point of plot, but a charming little work for the exhibition of Mademoiselle Rose Cherrs delicacy in representing the feelings of a young lady placed in a situation where love and honour seem to war with each other.
