We cannot find, space to deal at length with the

contro- versY between Canon Hensley Henson and Dr. Gore, Bishop of Birmingham. We must, however, express our satisfaction at the knowledge that the important point on which they differ is to be fought out in a Court of Law, and we congratu- late Canon Hensley Henson on the firm stand he has taken in the matter. It is not for us to prejudge a judicial decision, but we may venture to express our earned hope that Canon Ilensley Henson's view of the law will prevail. It would be nothing short of a national disaster if it should be declared that no clergyman can join in Christian work with his brethren of the Free Churches by speaking in their denominational institutions. Surely those who claim, and have a right to claim, that they are the spiritual servants of the whole nation ought not to be hampered by some mediaeval technicality as to the right of one parson to forbid intrusion into his parish by another parson.
