Dean Farrar

Sia,—Your correspondent has, I think, confused two Masters of Trinity: the Rev. Dr. William Hepworth Thompson (1866-1886), formerly Regius Professor of Greek and Canon of Ely, of whom there is a notable sketch in A. C. Benson's Essays (1896), pp. 238-251; and Sir Joseph John Thomson, 0.M., F.R.S. (1918-1940), formerly Cavendish Professor of Experimental Physics. He would have been on stronger ground had he observed that Dr. Farrar's first name was "Frederic," and not " Frederick."—Yours
