A fire broke out this morning in tha house of

a baker in Grafton Street, Fitzroy Square. Two men were not aroused in time to escape. One was seized by the flames and consumed; another is so burned that his recovery is hopeless.

Manchester has been enveloped this week in very dense fogs. The at- mosphere was so thick on Thursday that many persons lost their way ; children were met crying in the streets unable to find their way home. In the neighbourhood several persons have walked into canals and been drowned. The fog continued yesterday.
