Game for a Daimler

with Dame Edna Everage

Hello Possums!

I hope your cerebral cervixes have been tickled by our celebrity brain-teasers and I am thrilled, incidentally, that thanks to my imprimatur The Specky's sales are soaring and even up-market advertisers are scratching each other's eyes out to trumpet their wares on these prestige papers. Specky Bigwigs and executives have been pathetically grateful to me for fronting this spooky old quiz and I need hardly tell you that in terms of remuneration pathetic is the operative word (I love saying 'in terms of' and I'm not the only one).

Now for the question you've been dreading — My Own. And it's about that other Australian Dame — Chanteuse of Yesteryear, Prima Donna and by all accounts Raving Rat Bag Soprano — Dame Nellie Melba.

Good luck and God bless you all this Chrissy, and may the majority of my readers fail this competition miserably; otherwise, I fear, there will be squillions of eggheads squabbling over one (let's face it) imperceptibly defective Daimler.

Question No. 8

(Final question) Set by Dame Edna Everage

a What is Dame Nellie Melba supposed to have advised her E.E.C. opposite number Dame Clara Butt to warble on her Antipodean tour?

b What did Dame Nellie Melba later claim to have really said?
