All style, no substance

From Nigel Tipple Sir: Peter Oborne excelled himself in his final Cameron campaign address (Politics, 3 December). ‘A major presence on the national stage’, ‘massive achievement’, ‘most intriguing figure in British politics’, etc. Hang on! Steady the Buffs! Cameron may indeed have some attributes not shared by the other dreary candidates placed before the parliamentary party, but a new Kennedy or Thatcher he is not. I did not sense my many Conservative friends drooling at the prospect of the Cameron victory, primarily because they have no idea what he actually believes. Yes, he looks quite presentable and appears to be able to speak reasonably well. However, as far as content is concerned, they have not a clue.

No doubt a grateful nation will heave a sigh of relief as he sets out his bold agenda for the New Model Conservatives, which to most will closely resemble the Blairite drivel that we have suffered for the last eight years.
