The usual summary of the overland mail arrived by telegraph

this afternoon from Trieste, whence it was forwarded this morning. The latest dates are Hongkong 19th December, Bombay 17th January. "The Burmese Envoy has demanded the restitution of Pegu, which has been peremptorily refused. The Khan of Milian has been permitted to borrow native officers to drill his troops against the Russians. There has been some fighting in the Persian Gulf between the Arabs and the Persians. "At Bombay money is scarce, and the import market overstocked. A monetary crisis is considered probable at Calcutta. At Canton matters are still threatening and trade quite depressed."
