Si,—Reading the French verse given by your correspondent "L. E. W." in last week's Spectator reminds me of the verse I learnt as a child in the original edition of "Bewick's Birds." Which is the translation of the other ?—

Climbing the welkin clear- Chaunts, with a 'Cheer, here, peer, I near my dear !'
