DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE

SIR,—Mr. J. B. Ashe should not be unduly perturbed about the variety of people who are entitled to the appellation 'Doctor.' The medical man who objects should be content to recall Robert Burns:

The rank is but the guinea's stamp.

The man's the gowd for a' that. Incidentally, I never heard of a non-commissioned officer in HM Forces objecting to certain barristers being entitled to the now obsolete title of 'sergeant'! A. S. BIRD 59 High view Avenue, Edgware, Middlesex
