The Crystal Palace was opened this afternoon by Queen Victoria

in person. 'The ceremony on the occasion greatly resembled that performed in 1851, in Hyde Park. The Queen and Prince Albert, with the King of Portugal and the Duke of Oporto, arrived punctually at three o'clock ; when the large instrumental band and chorus performed "God save the Queen " ; her Majesty walked round the interior in proces- sion; on her return to the dais in the centre of the transept, the Arch- bishop of Canterbury offered up a prayer ; the "Hallelujah chorus" was sung ; the Queen in a clear voice declared that the Crystal Palace was opened, amid general cheering ; the national anthem was sung once more; and so the ceremony ended.
