The Archaeological Survey of India sends us Mr. Henry Cousens'

important work on Chalukian Architecture, price £3 10s. 6d. or Rs. 46. The temples described are those in the territory _south of Bombay and Goa up to the Ghats. Some of this Jaina sculpture is very remarkable. We see slim-waisted, big-breasted goddesses, and Vishnu in medi- tation, or Brahma surrounded by a medley of heads and legs and arms which would satisfy a Cubist : but more important than sculpture-are the inscriptions, which give us the history in outline of the .dynasties that reigned there between the sixth and fourteenth centuries of eur era.
