The onlie begetter

Sir: I have been interested in the disagreement in your columns (Letters, 19 April) over the origin of the slogan 'Life's better with the Conservatives : Don't let Labour ruin it.' I believe Mr J. W. M. Thompson to be substan- tially right in attributing it to Mr Quintin Hogg (then Lord Hailsham). My late husband, Ronald Simms, was then the .head of Conser- vative party publicity, and it was he who colla- borated with Lord Hailsham in the framing of this famous and successful slogan.
