Gs. net.)—Mrs. Humphry Ward's book is almost too poignant to be borne at this moment. Tho agonies undergone by a war bride whose husband is missing are only too faithfully depicted. Most people will agree with Mmo. de Stahl. who said that to write one must "hams loved, hams [suffered." Present suffering is too terrible a matter for artistic description.
