Suffering little children

Sir: The rich are such easy targets, aren't they? (Wean streets', 13 October). But they are determined to remain so. I too have recently been out collecting, for Action Aid in a Cotswold village. Another charity had been along my street the day before, but only the second biggest house declined to donate, giving that as the reason. Except for the biggest house, which also declined, for the following reason: `Sorry, I only give to Third World charities for family planning. I don't be- lieve in supporting the children. That's the only logical method, don't you agree?' Carole Angier
