Two lectures, published under the title of Ideals of Culture,

by E. A. Sonnenschein (Swan, Sonnenschein, and Co.), may be recom- mended to readers. The first deals with the difficult subject of "The Relation between Culture and Science." Professor Sonnen- schein's eirenicon, as it may be called, is worth considering. The second lecture discusses "The Greek Games," which he divides into "The Games of the Nursery," "The Gymnastic Exercises of the School," and "The Agonistic Exercises and Social Games of Mature Life." Professor Sonnenschein, we see, takes the rational view that the prize in the Pentathlon was adjudged to the winner in the majority of contests.
