In the Russian theatre of the war we learn that

the Germans who were so heavily defeated on the Niemen have been reinforced, and are making a determined stand against General Rennenkampf's army. Towards the south Russian detachments are invading Hungary, and up till now their progress seems to have been very rapid as well as very successful. The main Russian Army of the centre, with whom is the Emperor, is evidently faced by a very large force of Germans and Austrians. Though there is talk of the out- posts having been engaged, there is no news yet of the great battle which will have to be fought out before the Russians can reach Cracow, their first objective.
