The Cape elections seem, after all, not to have been

so favourable to the Bond as was first supposed, owing to an

unexpected Progressive victory at Uitenhage. The present state of parties Is: Bond, 40; Progressives, 37. Vryburg has still to poll, but the result will not be known for some time. If, as is expected, it returns two Progressives, the Bond will have a majority of one. This, we presume, will mean either a Coalition Ministry formed between Mr. Schreiner and Mr. Rose-tunes, or else a Ministry of Affairs under Sir Henry De Villiers, the Chief Justice.
