Sta,—Mr. Bridson has, it is stated, withdrawn his notice toclose this path. Will you allow me further to remark that, when I imputed to that gentleman misanthropy in this particular case, I had not the slightest intention of doing so, generally. Such an imputation would have been most unjust, and I am very sorry if my words admitted of such a construction.

In view of the constant increase in the number of privateresidencesin close proximity to our beautiful lakes, it is specially incumbent on the " public " to keep a lively look-out for thepreservation of the old by-ways and foot-paths for public use.— I am, Sir, &c., Windermere, April 8th.
