NEWS OF THE WEEK.

SUSPENSE about the Ruhr and Reparations remains in kind and degree as it was when we wrote last week. After all that the Prime Minister has said on the subject we are in no doubt as to what his feelings and convictions are, but there are influences which are designed to pull him in another direction. We believe that Mr. Baldwin will be strong enough to resist, though some newspapers when we write on Thursday ask us to believe that Mr. Baldwin will do no more than maintain the neutrality of Mr. Bonar Law. We have tried to show in our first leading article why such a policy is not enough. You cannot remain neutral on a point of principle. Even if neutrality in such circumstances did not sap all your energy and authority events would always defeat you as the natural penalty of indifferent tactics.
