HUDSON'S BAY

E 275th annual general court of the Governor and Company of venturers of England trading into Hudson's Bay was held on gust 8th in London, Sir Patrick Ashley Cooper, the governor, presiding. The following is an extract from the governor's circulated statement: The accounts again disclose a record trading profit, the bulk of which absorbed by taxation. Receipts of the land department are the best ce 1929. They reflect the fact that farmers in Western Canada are mg well.

Record sales and profits were achieved by the retail stores, but to this the management had to overcome many difficulties, including se arising from a depleted staff. Wholesale operations which are icularly dependent on imported merchandise, were faced with even ter difficulties. In the North Land we continue to do everything ssible to look after our fur trade and also to co-operate with the orities in various activities necessary both for the war effort and for general welfare of those areas.

Fur business in the United Kingdom is still restricted to small pro- rtions. In New York, Lrunpson' Fraser and Huth, Inc., arc selling bstantial quantities of furs. In Montreal our fur sales department posed of steadily increasing quantities.

The report was adopted.
