Sir: May I add to Patrick Cosgrave's so-excellent assessment of the Liberal victory (August 4) a slightly pessimis• tic postscript?

No one, I imagine, is likely to dispute the Liberals' infection with the psychological disease once colloquially known as ' native-loving '. Indeed Mr Peter Hain is more basically pro-Black than even Mr Harold Wilson. The Liberals are also pro-EEC and by their deliberate vote have ensured that we are subservient to the greed of foreign farmers.

Thus a Liberal triumph offers no alternative, only an emphasis of the evils of the other two parties.

If there were only a Patriotic Party. . . .
