Hollow

Sir: I thought it particularly hollow for Jeffrey Bernard, friend and confidant of millionaire playboy Taki and associate of the wealthy and influential in all walks of life, to claim in a recent edition (Low life, 21 July) that he can't get a job in Fleet Street because he can't bullshit readers. He does so every week when he pleads poverty and writes about life on the bottom rung of the ladder. He's a brilliant and funnY writer and the first one I usually turn to when I get my Spectator every week, but 'can't bullshit readers'? Come off it, Jef- frey!
