MR. AMEER ALL AND THE PRIVY COUNCIL. [To THII EDITOR

or rim "SrzcrAroa."] Sta,—The appointment of Seyd Ameer Ali, C.I.E., to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council is not only a deserved recognition of his distinguished public services, and of his eminence as a jurist and leading authority on Mohammedan law, but it marks an historical event of great importance in the annals of the British Empire, which ought not to be allowed to pass without notice.

Apart from the personal friends of the new Privy Councillor, there are, we feel sure, many who have been his colleagues in India, or are, in one way or another, deeply interested in the welfare of India, who would desire to join in honouring Mr. Ameer All by entertaining him at a complimentary dinner in London early in the New Year. , A small Committee is being formed for this purpose, and names of those wishing to attiand the dinner should be sent to the honorary secretary, 9 Northumberland Avenue, Putney, S.W., who will communicate further details as to the-arrangements.—We are, Sir, &e.,

Avretray.
