Sue—There are one or two questions that teetotalers might answer before advocating more extreme measures as regards the use of alcohol. During the past five hundred years, without going back to the Romans and Normans, the only races that have done well in the world have taken alcohol, including the Japanese. Have the total abstainers ever produced good Admirals, Generals, or statesmen ? In our House of Commons they wore unable to see an inch ahead of their noses over the German danger. Many members of the medical profession would like to have these matters explained in a rational manner, as the majority of us maintain that alcohol in moderation is good for a nation, and that drunks are a few weak-minded folk suffering from a loss of will-power which may be hereditary.— I am, Sir, &c.,
