Hitler and the English

Sir: I do not know whether Mr David Pannick (Letters, 20 November) was alive in the 1930s. I was, and I can assure him that very few people of any 'class' in England admired or approved of Adolf Hitler.

Most people who knew anything about Germany (which many of us loved) hated and despised Hitler and his anti-Jewish activities.

Many English people, including members of my own family, though not Jewish themselves, helped countless Jewish families to escape, to England, America, Canada and elsewhere from Hitler's tyranny in Germany, Austria, Hungary and other countries which were victims of his tyranny and cruelty. Many of those so saved have shown us that they have not forgotten.
