WINTER SUNSHINE

[To the Editor of THE SPECTATOR.]

SIR,—Many of your readers must want, as I do, sun and warmth in January and February, and might like to know of this place. I arrived here on January 17th, and since then there has been continuous sunshine with just a slight pleasing tang in the air. At 9.3o a.m. it is warm enough to sun-bathe in one's bedroom. Considering that there is an 18-hole golf course, a tennis club, a Casino, and a very pleasant bridge dub, I am astonished not to find more people here, and I can only imagine it is thought that the Spanish conflict is being carried on in Portugal. I have no axe to grind.—I am, yours
