SPECTATOR COMPETITION No. ioo

Set by Marghanita Laski The immortality of so many poets rests on brief quotations that it seems probable that many Spectator readers could achieve it too— so long as they didn't have to write all the lines in between. The usual prizes are, then, offered for original quwations of not more than one and a half lines in length, together with the name of the original work in which the quotation would have appeared if it had ever got )1'ritten. Potential immortality will be the criterion.

Entries must be addressed to the Spectator, 99 Gower Street, London, W.C.1, in envelopes marked" Competition," and must be received not later than January 23rd. Results will be published in the Spectator of February 1st.
