SIR.—Both Lord Pakenham and Mr. Evan Griffiths have missed the point about our prison population.

It does not include large numbers of Irish for racial reasons, but simply because crime (and especially violent crime) is a city activity, and it is in our great cities that the Irish are to be found.

There are few country boys in prison—and few Irish in the country.—Yours faithfully,
