Sir: Paul Johnson's remarks about homo- sexuals in this week's

Spectator are disgust- ing.

Unlike Catholicism, homosexuality is something about which one has no choice; one can only do the best one can in the face of a predominantly hostile society. This often includes making a permanent rela- tionship with a member of one's own sex. The alternatives are celibacy or promiscu- ity.
