SWALLOWS.

[To THE EDITOR OF THE " SPECTATOR.")

Sin; —This year and last there have been hardly any birds of the swallow tribes round here, where there used to be plenty. I should much like to know whether this is the case in other parts of England. Some of us take as much interest in the ways of birds in the air as we do in the ways of politicians at Westminster. If the decrease of these delightful swallows is general, could any bird-student suggest an explanation? I trust that it has nothing to do with ladies' hats. If so, it is a question which should be taken in hand by the League of
