Undoubtedly the new motor roads will contribute greatly to the

pleasure of our holidays. The Watford by-pass gives .you seven miles of straight run over an undulating country with views as glorious as any in England. It is somewhat difficult to find at present, for it is not all completed yet, being still a mile -from the end of the Edgware tram lines,

but the whole course will soon be ready. No doubt the Romans had their puling aesthetes, ai we have to-day, who complained of the uncompromising straightness of the new roads, and their ugliness. Yet they are in the Roman tradition. Like them they are straight and trim and severely designed for practical use, and all the better for that.
