THE GREAT WORKING-CLASS 'MEETING. TO THE EDITOR OF THE SPECTATOR.

13; Trelleck Terrace, Pimlico, 7th March 1837. Sia-In it letter on the subject of the great meeting of the Working Classes held at the Crown and Anchor last week, a correspondent of yours has imputed to me s course of conduct which I did not pursue. The fact is, I soon per- ceived that that great meeting was intended at a demonstration that work- ing men could most wisely of themselves and by themselves conduct their own affairs. I was therefore too much their friend to interfere with the completion of the experiment ; and accordingly, althoegh loudly called fur by many in the body of the room, I declined addressing the meeting ; and even would have retired altogether, but for persuasions to the contrary by some members of the Committee, and one of them saying we look upon you as one of ourselves.

Without impugning the motives of others, I beg you will do me the justice to insert this correction of an error committed by your own correspondent. I have the honour to be, Sir, your obedient, humble servant, ARTHeR S. WADE, D.D.
