Two hundred homeward-bound ships have been detained in the channel

by the Easterly winds ; but as the adverse breezes have yielded, many vessels are expected to arrive tomorrow or next day. We have an earnest in an arrival from Port Phillip, with papers to the 27th of De- cember, and South Australian papers to the 6th ; from Mauritius, with papers to February ; besides one from New York, with news to the 11th April. The commercial intelligence from all these quarters is upon the whole favourable. The spring trade promised well at New York. The boiling of sheep for tallow proceeded briskly at Port Phillip.
