A posthumous Quartett of Mendelssohn was performed at the Musical

Union on Tuesday, for the first time in this country ; the first violin being taken by Ernst. We merely record the fact, without giving an opinion of the composition. It is very original, eccentric, and obscure; and, like Beethoven's last quartette, is one of those things which no one who speaks honestly can pretend to understand or enjoy at one hearing.
