Alas ! for Mr. Lloyd George, The British people have

a habit which renders the dream of the Centre Party illusory. When they want something they go for it to the best place—the place which supplies the genuine article—and not to those who .offer an " cquall,y as good as" product. When, then, they want a Centre policy, as unquestionably they do at the present moment, they go for it to Mr. Bonar Law and his Government, and not to their Coalitionist opponents. And they arc wise. Going to Mr. Lloyd George, Mr. Winston Churchill and Lord Birkenhead for moderation, constitutionalism and economy is like going to a Bandit's Cave to obtain advice on the best methods of maintaining the rights of property.
