NEWS OF THE WEEK.

THE most striking fact in the progress of the election campaign during the week is the steady swing of events in favour of the new Government. Mr. Bonar Law grows stronger day by day, while Mr. Lloyd George, like the Cheshire. cat in Alice in Wonderland, is gradually fading away into a sort of half melancholy, half kindly smile. Every now and again, however—once more like the Cheshire cat— he materializes for a moment in order to express surprise that the country does not realize what a valuable Centre Party could be formed . by such men as himself, Mr. Winston Churchill and Lord Birkenhead. Mr. Chamberlain is not much spoken of, but no doubt he would be allowed in on terms.
