One word more. We are glad to admit that, in

spite of the wild talk of some of the extremist writers and papers, the strikers showed good temper, and refrained, except in one or two cases, from any criminal acts. The leadership of the Union was, in our opinion, marked by weakness and by otservance of the fatal prin- ciple : We are the men's leaders, and therefore we must follow them. The part played by the responsible leaders in many of the older type of organized Trade Unions was excellent. They showed loyalty to and sympathy for the cause of their fellows, while at the same time preaching and practising moderation and good sense.
