Last night's Gazette notifies the appointment of Lord Wrottesley, Professor

Robert Willis, MA., Captain Henry James, R. E., Mr. George Rennie, Mr. William Cubitt, and Mr. Eaton Hodgkinson, to be her Majesty's Commissioners for inquiring into the conditions to be observed by engineers in the application of iron in railway structures. Lieu- tenant Douglas Gatton, R.E., is appointed Secretary.

The Gazette announces the appointment of Major-General Sir Henry George Wakelyn Smith, Baronet, Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, as Governor and Commander-in-chief of the Cape of Good Hope, and also as the Queen's High Commissioner for settling the Frontier question.
