On this appeal, Lord Randolph Churchill very wisely and prudently

gave way. He could not, he said, hold out the slightest hope that the Government would accept Mr. Parnell's temporary Bill. But he admitted Mr. Parnell's responsibility, and if Mr. Parnell thought that good would be done in Ireland by having such a measure brought forward and fairly considered by the House, he would undertake to find Mr. Parnell a night or nights for its fair consideration. Mr. John Morley, in cordial terms, expressed on behalf of the Opposition his satisfaction at this reasonable and conciliatory decision, and the debate ter- minated in general satisfaction.
