COLOUR AND THE ELECTION

SIR,----I never heard such a feeble argument as Mr. David Watt now puts forward. Has he not heard the ancient proverb 'he who pays the piper calls the tune'?` Does he expect Birmingham people to hand over assets for which they have paid, to immigrants who have contributed nothing all at the behest of civil servants dispensing other people's money?

Mr. Watt asks, should coloured immigrants already here be granted as much tolerance, social service and housing as the indigeneous inhabitants of Birm- ingham? Certainly, if they have been here for a reasonable period, but not until. We are a business community, not a charity organisation.
