Inner City problems

Sir: One of the most pressing problems facing a large City like London is the problem of the Inner City. In order to investigate the nature of the problem, Greater London Young Conservatives have set up a small, short-term study group. As the Chairman of that study group may I, through your letter columns, ask for contributions from any interested person or organization? The particular areas of study that we are covering are:—

(1) Inner city housing (2) Highways and transport communications.

(3) Education. (4) Health and social problems including the impact of overcrowding and slums on indigenous and commuting population.

(5) Political impact, including the creation of ' political ghettos ' in inner city slums. (6) Community and race relations as particularly affected by the nature of the inner city environment and its effects.

(7) Leisure, tourism and social amenities.

All contributions should be addressed to myself and will, of course, be acknowledged in the report of the study group.

A. M. Winters Chairman, Greater London Young Conservatives Study Group on the Problems of the Inner City.
