Sta,--Would Mr. Robert Conquest explain why he feigns indignation at Lord Russell's assertion that the Americans will use all available means to destroy Cuba? Has not Mr. Conquest in recent articles de- fended American attempts to invade the country and destroy the government and has not this policy been openly avowed, not only by renegade Cubans, but also by the United States Government with the back- ing of Wall Street and the Pentagon? I can recog- nise the logical consistency of Mr. Conquest's ideological argument that, while it is right for the United States to point missiles at, and even to in- vade, Cuba, it is wrong for Cuba to point missiles St the United States, even while 1 despise the argu- ment. But now Mr. Conquest is doubling back in his tracks and denying that the United States ever suPPorted such a view, I would ask him to be con- sistent even at the cost of being contemptible.
