Mr. Fowler on Thursday night took a division on a

motion condemning the abolition of the offices of Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas and Lord Chief Baron. The debate, in spite of some good speeches, and of a remark by Sir W. Harcourt that the Chiefships were " judicial impostures," was rather too pro- fessional and somewhat dull. At its close, the House approved the abolition by 178 to 110.
