(To THE EDITOR OF THE " SPECTATOR.") - SIR,—Surely there can be no doubt about the pronunciation of Salonica (or Salqniki), the ancient Thessalonica. I have before me as I write the'Greek newspaper EAAAZ, printed, as its title- page bears evidence, is OeacraXoeirr. The place, originally Therme, from its neighbourhood to some hot springs, appears to have been renamed Thessalonike after Alexander's death by Cassander, who called it so -after his wife, King Philip's daughter.
