Mr. Bruce, on his return to Australia, made the most

interesting statement that he had persuaded the British Government to send out three or four of the best financial and business brains in Great Britain to confer with the Australian Government and leaders of industry on the best methods for increasing and hastening immigration. This is a most welcome announcement. It marks the end, let us hope for ever, of the policy which persisted too long of restricting the population of Australia. The idea was to keep high wages for a few people, and if that Labour doctrine had succeeded permanently a great Continent would have remained populated only on its fringes. Mr. Bruce will be wise if he tries to associate the British Labour Party as intimately as possible with the new movement.
