Postal delays Sir: Some months ago in your correspond ence page

a spokesman for the GPO stated that it was not true that second-class mall was deliberately delayed in transit.

On 27 January, I received eighteen such letters from different parts of the British Isles. One was postmarked 22 January and the other seventeen were postmarked 24 January.

If this mail came to me unhindered the people handling it must be the most incompetent bunglers in the country, displaying an ineptitude without parallel in the Western world.

So long as the postal staff are receiving part of their wages to reduce the efficiency of their service they will continue to be what they are now—the epitome of indifferent uselessness.
