A PREMATURE PEACE.

[To THE EDITOR OP THE " SPECTATOR."]

Sia,—In 1794 various resolutions for a peace with France were introduced into Parliament. Against one of these Lord Abingdon uttered-stirring words which should be interesting to us in these days, and which I have not seen cited among your references. "The best road to peace, my Lords, is war ! and war carried on in the same manner in which we are taught to worship our Creator, namely, with all our souls, and with all our minds, and with all our hearts, and with all our strength." These words I came across as I was turning over Dykes Campbell's edition of

Coleridge.—I am, Sir, &c., W. M. T. Mount Allison University, Canada.
