GOOL)BYE, ENGLAND .

SIK,—;bonald Gordon (July .5) tells us that he is packing up his family in order to return tO Canada, presumably because he • has found England lacking in almost everything he wants for himself and his children. This 'see's to depend, at least to some extent, on his views about the inadequacy of English education. How odd! perhaps he did not see the progranune•on television on Monday last, University Challenge, in which the contestants came from Pem- broke • College, Cambridge. and from Canadian universities. The result was that the Conner team 'won by well over 200 points. Indeed, the Only subject in Which the latter were more knowledgeable was that of recognising certain 'pop' tunes.

As one who Wishes Mr. Gordon well, may I express the hope that his children will attain at least the' Same scholastic heights as the members of the Canadian universities team?

They will have the additional advantage; of living nearer the, source of 'the week-in, week-out Vacuity of most radio and te!evision' so much of :which is, unfortunately, borrowed from Canada's wealthy neighbour.

Then also they will presumably not be exposed to the risk of being attended by a general practitioner 'who in the last three months has, 1 am assured, misdiagnosed three major illnesses,' • They will have the 'advantage' of risking misdiagnosis, more scientifically and at far greater expense, in hospitals, where failures are less obvious to the neighbours.

Whether they will find American canned pap and swill more palatable in Canada than they have found the imported products of the same firms, in England seems open to a good deal of doubt.
