Iraq is now relieved from a great burden—not only the

fear of invasion but the expense of providing against that danger. The -British Government, who did not misplace • their trust in Mr. Amery, are to be heartily congratulated on this happy emergence from many difficulties. The newspaper campaign which was conduc- ted for many months against British policy, and against Mr. Baldwin hi particular, might have encouraged the Turks to believe that they were dealing with a hesitating and -divided country. Fortunately Mr. Baldwin never wavered and he now -has his reward.
