• NEW CAPITAL SUCCESSES.

. I referred recently in these columns to the manner in which fresh capital issues—provided they -were of an attractive character—might be regarded as immune from the effects of coal stoppage influences, and recent results have certainly justified that View. Thus, the- great success of the New Zealand Loan, recently chronicled in these pages, has now been followed by a similar rush for the San Paulo Coffee Bonds, . issued through Messrs. Lazard Brothers. The amount

• offered in this country was £4,000,000 in 74 per cent. Bonds at the price of 974 and, although at the moment of writing the precise results are not known, the market believes that the issue has probably been covered from fifteen to twenty times. There is little doubt, too, that the Victorian Loan for 13,000,000 in 5 per cents. at 984 will be well applied for, and a number of the industrial issues which are being made this week are fairly attractive.
